Welcome to the first edition of Wine and Whine Down Wednesday. Here’s how it’s going to go, I’m going to enjoy a glass of wine, review it for you and then WHINE a little. You’re more than welcome to have a glass and whine a little with me J

First Up: Flip Flop Wines Chardonnay

My Wine Review: I’m really starting to acquire a taste for wine! YAY! As you know I’ve tried Flip Flop Riesling and Flip Flop Pinot Grigio and so far Chardonnay is my favorite, when I read up on Chardonnay a little but more it’s drier than the other two wines and I think *for me* I prefer drier wines. The Chardonnay was fruity and tart and I loved the way it tasted. As far as white wines go Chardonnay is my favorite but I’ve heard good things about Mosacto and I’ll be trying that shortly as well so I will let you know what I think in the coming weeks!

Need another reason to love Flip Flop Wines? (Click the image to learn more about Soles 4 Souls)

My Whine: When B watches my favorite TV shows with me and complains and makes fun of the people on them the entire time it drives me absolutely nuts and it’s SO childish because it’s just a TV show but it makes me insane!

When I was pregnant with Mason B and I used to get Schwan’s delivered all the time! We would always pick one thing each (sometimes two) and enjoy the special hand delivered treat! One thing I’ll never forget that we got which was SO good was the Toastwhich Bacon, Egg and Cheese:

They were SO good!

This time around I was able to choose from a couple of different dishes for review!

For the main dish I got to choose one of these:

Steakhouse Seasoned Flat Iron Steak

un-breaded chicken breast fillets

Black Angus Steak Burgers

 LiveSmart Turkey Sausage Patties

I picked the Black Angus Steak Burgers:

What I noticed most and loved about the burgers is that they stayed the same size! A lot of times when you get frozen burgers they look so big BEFORE you cook them, then you cook them and they shrink considerably! These didn’t do that which was awesome and they tasted delicious!

For the side dish I tried the Lemon Garlic Seasoned Vegetable Blend because I LOVE lemon and garlic!

For me it could have been a little bit more lemon/garlic flavored but B thought they were perfect the way they were! They also tasted really fresh! I’ve also tried Asparagus from them and it was fantastic as well!

For dessert I choose the  Loaded Waffle Cone with Peanut Butter Swirl
Confession, if I zoomed back on this ice cream you would notice that that’s pretty much all that was left of it. This ice cream was SO good if I could I would get it EVERY week! It was the perfect combination of flavors!
All in all every experience I’ve ever had with Schwan’s has been a good one and I recommend finding your local Schwan’s representative and giving it a try! Be sure to also check out the Schwan’s Specials!

Just last weekend I was at my parents house and we were going through boxes in our basement, so many of them were ruined due to our basement flooding and subsequent water damage. It was devastating to find some of our stuff completely ruined. We lost so many things. For me I lost middle school year books, photos and documents like my original birth certificate and other things from my childhood that I can never get back. Ever. It’s sad really. It got me thinking about things, what if those were even more important documents? What if I had lost even more things that couldn’t be replaced?

I recently stumbled upon AboutOne.com and I love the concept it’s a digital filing system and more. Taking Mason out to eat can be an absolute nightmare. Something about putting him in a chair for an hour that just really irks his nerves. From the second we put him in it he wants OUT! It can be incredibly frustrating for B and I! Here we are trying to enjoy our meal and Mase is trying frantically to climb out of the chair run across the table and destroy everything in sight.

But lately something has caught his fancy and that’s coloring and/or drawing on himself with any pen he finds. He’s an artist in training. Modern-Twist.com offers me a win-win situation with their Kidz Placemats. I’m in love with them. Their place mats are made from food-grade, hand silk-screened silicone and come with markers that you can color on the mat and wipe off clean.  They come in a bunch of different designs and are easy to travel with. I carry it my purse/diaper bag and put it down for Mason while we’re waiting for our food at restaurants. He uses the markers to draw on the mat {and himself} and B and I can actually carry on a conversation well unless B is helping the little man color the mat! I absolutely love the design we got to try:

Isn’t it awesome?

Mason loved his too!

Granted he’s not very good at coloring in the lines! But he’ll get there one day! I also loved these designs!

This is a Dwell Studio Design. I <3 them!

This is their Hide and Seek design.

I LOVE the details of their design and they offer a lot more than just kids place mats! They also have adult place mats that are elegant and beautiful for your home, my favorite:

The Kidz place mats retail for $18-$20 and their regular place mats retail for $18!

Come this September my Family is making the switch to the iPhone, they’re obsessed with being able to face chat and they keep trying to convince me to jump on the bandwagon. So far I haven’t given in because I’m LOVING my new phone but who knows right? Face Time is pretty cool!

The UnCommon iPhone and iPod cases also make a pretty good case for getting one because they are SO cute! You can create a custom design that matches your personality and protects your phone. I designed one for my Mom’s phone. I know she misses Mason tons so I figure it wouldn’t hurt if her phone case had Mason on it so she can see him every time she uses her phone which is an AWFUL LOT ;) This is the one that I made:

How cute is my boy?! I mean the phone case ;)

I was really impressed with the quality of the case, it was really thick and easy to get on and off the phone. I had the pleasure of seeing other UnCommon Cases at BlogHer11 and I was super impressed with their designs as well. We all went with something different and they all came out great!

I highly suggest this case to people with iPhones and iPods. If you’re interested in ordering a case for yourself please email me as I have some 20% off codes left over from BlogHer11!

The GummiBar I am a Gummy Bear DVD features 12 different songs sung buy GummiBar. The I am a Gummy Bear theme song is sung in English as well as 7 other languages!

As soon as I put this DVD in and Mason heard the theme song he was dancing around, he obviously liked it. As I started the DVD he got more into it and was dancing and obviously enjoyed it. He wasn’t as big of a fan of the song in some of the other languages but I think that’s just because he was confused? Not really sure. As a parent this DVD can get really old really quick it’s pretty much the same song, same beat, same video played 7+ times. Also GummiBar shakes his butt at one point and his butt crack is hanging out. He’s just a cartoon but it kind of bothered me. But I do think it’s cool that it comes in so many different languages.

Wanna see the craziness that is GummiBar for yourself?

Running Time: 60 Minutes
Features Four Episodes

Dinosaur Train follows Buddy a Tyrannosaurs Rex and his adoptive Pteranodon family. They spend a lot of time traveling on the dinosaur train learning about dinosaurs especially what kind of Dinosaur Buddy may be! I really like Dinosaur Train for Mason. I love the it has music, bright colors and teaches kids the basics of Dinosaurs. The episodes are short which are perfect for Mason since he doesn’t stay interested in much of anything for long. The things that children learn from Dinosaur Train is a little above and beyond Mason who is 17 months but that doesn’t stop him from enjoying the music and colors. I love that he still enjoys it even though it’s meant for preschoolers because that means my brother L, my sister A and M can all enjoy it together even though they’re 5, 3, and 17 months respectively.

As far as Mason goes it kept his interest and he really enjoyed the parts where they broke out into song and the opening, that boy loves to dance!

To learn more about Dinosaur Train from a Parent’s Perspective visit the PBS Parent’s Site. They also have a children’s area where your Preschooler can play fun games on the internet. I did this with Luke a while back and he loved it!

Yesterday B and I took Mason over to Walmart, we had a couple of things to pick up and The Walmart Ice Cream Social was going on! We’re having a get together on the 4th so we needed to get things for that and treats for the kids that will be there.  Our first stop was The Walmart Ice Cream Social, we figured the ice cream would keep him occupied while we shopped.

The stand was set up at the end of the Freezer aisle and in front of the meats! They were featuring Lil’ Drums which were PERFECT for Mason.

I had NO idea that Nestle Drumstick made Lil’ Drums or different flavors for that matter! I’m so used to the original!

They also make a Vanilla Caramel

And a Chocolate Dipped cones with three different flavors! This one specifies that there are no peanuts, which is completely my style since I don’t like peanuts!

Simply Dipped Nestle Drumsticks

Mason loved his Lil Drum so we picked up another box of 12 for $4.97 they’re going to be perfect as a treat for the kids that come to our cookout tomorrow! When he first got it he just pointed out it and said “This?”

I said “For You” and look how excited he got!

He ate it throughout the time we were there and LOVED it!

It was even in his hair!

I helped Mason eat his Lil Drum and it was really good!

Did you go to The Walmart Ice Cream Social? What kind of cone did you get to try? Do you like Drumsticks? Did you know they had so many flavors?

How Huge the Night by Heather Munn and Lydia Munn

Synopsis:

Fifteen-year-old Julien Losier just wants to fit in. But after his family moves to a small village in central France in hopes of outrunning the Nazis, he is suddenly faced with bigger challenges than the taunting of local teens.

Nina Krenkel left her country to obey her father’s dying command: Take your brother and leave Austria. Burn your papers. Tell no one you are Jews. Alone and on the run, she arrives in Tanieux, France, dangerously ill and in despair.

Thrown together by the chaos of war, Julien begins to feel the terrible weight of the looming conflict and Nina fights to survive. As France falls to the Nazis, Julien struggles with doing what is right, even if it is not enough-and wonders whether or not he really can save Nina from almost certain death.

Based on the true story of the town of Le Chambon-the only French town honored by Israel for rescuing Jews from the Holocaust-How Huge the Night is a compelling, coming-of-age drama that will keep teens turning the pages as it teaches them about a fascinating period of history and inspires them to think more deeply about their everyday choices.

I’ve always enjoyed historical fiction, especially historical fiction about WWII, I find it to be really fascinating especially when it has to do with young kids and how they made a difference even though it doesn’t seem like they would be able too. How Huge The Night follows Julien a teenage boy who just moved to a new town, Benjamin the teenager living with Julien and his family to escape prosecution in Germany {he’s Jewish}, Nina/Niko a young Jewish girl trying to escape persecution after her father dies and her little brother Gustav.

The book has a religious spin to it and talks about Jesus/God a lot. How could you not when the premise is WWII? However, I don’t think it’s overwhelming or pushy and while I noticed the religious references it fits  within the context of the book.

For me the book was a little slow to start it may have something to do with the fact that I had just recently finished another book having to do with WWII, it’s heavy subject matter so sometimes that can be a little overwhelming. Once I got into the book I really enjoyed it.I loved the message that it was giving, love one another, do what you can to the best of your abilities. I think it did a great job of showing the struggles a person has when they know what they should do and what they want to do. It’s not always easy to do the right thing even if you want to do the right thing! With that being said there were plenty of parts in the book where I got confused and felt like I missed something but when I would go back and read it turns out I missed nothing at all, it just seemed to lack good transitions at some points.

Over all, I think it was a good book and would be a good read for teenagers who may be struggling with peer pressure and/or bullying!

In all honesty what’s not to love about Cupcakes? Deliciousness in the cup of your hand! When I got this cookbook to review I immediately searched through the recipes checking out what they had to offer. This is the very first cookbook that I’ve owned that is devoted entirely to desserts, which is really sad because I *love* making desserts! My favorite cook books have a lot of instruction and pictures of every single thing they make and this cook book does exactly that. You know exactly what your cupcake is going to look like in the end because you get a picture of it! It tells you the supplies you’re going to need to make most of these cupcakes, things you should stock your pantry with. It also gives you baking tips and decorating tips! The cook book is arranged by the four seasons with a ton of recipes that fit perfectly with the season. A lot of recipes have a “Flip it” where using the same base recipe you can tweak some things and create an entirely different cupcake! Some of the cupcakes you can look forward to making:
S’Mores Cupcakes {I made these and omg delicious} Lemon-Basil CupcakesPink Lemonade Caramel Apple CupcakesMojito CupcakesMaple BaconGluten-Free CupcakesTiramisu Peppermint Mocha Little Carrot CakesMississippi MudThe list can go on and on there are literally 150 recipes in this book!I highly recommend this book and I can’t wait to try out some more recipes! Up next for me is the Red, White and Blue cupcakes just in time for the Fourth of July!
